Open Farm Day
The annual event happens the fourth weekend in July.
Maine farmers started this summertime tradition in 1989. The event serves different purposes for farms and communities. Examples include “open house” style tours, customer appreciation events, and agricultural awareness experiences.
Real Maine Ice Cream Trail
Promotional events kick-off in June as part of Dairy month, and continue throughout the summer and fall.
About the promotion: Created in 2021 to help farms, creameries, scoop shops and other sites. The Real Maine Ice Cream Trail is not an ordinary list of scoop shops or retailers. The purpose is to help people find sites that use Maine milk and cream, plus other Maine farm ingredients. Sites include creameries, farm stores, or scoop shops that are open to guests, and sell ice cream, custards, frozen yogurts or gelatos. If you’re not a business but want to suggest a site, please email Real Maine!
Real Maine Fiber Tour & Trail
This event happens in early October to help sites connect with people who enjoy Maine’s fall sightseeing experiences.
About the promotion: Created in 2021 as an idea of farmers, processors and artisans. The trail aims to show how raw fiber becomes a finished product. Host sites offer a variety of experiences. Farms raising fiber-producing animals or crops host tours. Artisans, such as those who use non-synthetic dyes, open their studios. Many sites sell local fleece, fiber, roving, and yarns.
